Canada-Wide Survey Addresses Ways to Improve Quality of Life for Canadians Living with Mental Illness…

The Schizophrenia Society of Canada (SCC) recently commissioned a Canada-wide survey to learn how it can support people living with schizophrenia and their families to recover the best quality of life possible.  Through a qualitative and quantitative survey and cross Canada focus groups, 1,086 people with mental health experience shared what quality of life means to them.  The results revealed that people living with schizophrenia and their families share similar hopes and frustrations regarding their quality of life.

Your Recovery Journey

Your Recovery Journey, is based on the experiences of people who have a mental illness and who know there is hope, who are well and doing the things they want with their lives.

The program offers five free interactive weekly sessions, each ninety minutes long, and all facilitated by people in recovery who can give you valuable information that will help you on your recovery journey.  You’ll also learn how to find peer support and build new life skills.

The program is designed for any person with mental illness who would like to find support and explore different aspect of recovery.  Using the variety of formats, including presentation, interactive exercises, and structured activities, the program guides participants towards their goals of establishing and maintaining wellness.

What is Schizophrenia?


Schizophrenia: A Journey to Recovery - View PDF File

The SSC is pleased to announce a new resource that provides consumers and family members with plain-language information on the clinical treatment of schizophrenia.

Schizophrenia: A Journey to Recovery -- A Consumer and Family Guide to Assessment and Treatment was produced through a partnership between the SSC and the Canadian Psychiatric Association (CPA). The project adapted the CPA's Clinical Guidelines for the Treatment of Schizophrenia into a user-friendly format to assist consumers and families as they navigate their way through assessment and treatment of the illness.

Now in its third edition, this is a "must-have" publication for families and caregivers of individuals with schizophrenia. Rays of Hope is available here to download, or a copy of the book can be purchased through your provincial schizophrenia society office.
